Curfew

2021 / A pandemic work

100% acrylic emulsion, lumber, fire, fire blanket

40” x 40”

On January 9th 2021, like many other provinces and countries, the whole of Quebec closed under a new health measure:
Curfew. Generalized throughout the province to fight against the damage of the coronavirus, it isolates us temporarily, temporally. A feeling of repression then inhabits me. During a stay in Quebec, around a wood fire, at 9:20 p.m., I burned a canvas covered in liberty blue, to celebrate the year lived during this pandemic. So, flambéed with maple whiskey, I consume this freedom which was extinguished at 9:30 p.m. by a fire blanket purchased on the internet, while the stores were closed indefinitely.
